MCEO's Mission
“We need representation from schools all over Massachusetts to have the most influence on the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education”
MissionStatement
The Massachusetts Climate Education Organization is a youth led grassroots campaign that desires to connect schools from across the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in pursuit of implementing climate change and environmental awareness education in curricula throughout K-12 school systems. The enrichment of education on climate-related issues will increase initiative among youth. We seek to improve the climate education standards on human rights, scientific, and civic fronts, allowing students to analyze and understand all the effects of climate change on our society.
OurGoals
The Massachusetts Climate Education Organization champions an action plan to improve climate education standards on human rights, scientific and civic fronts in all grades (K-12) through school districts across Massachusetts. By educating generations of students, we believe that it will allow students to make informed decisions on issues surrounding climate change.
LongtermGoals
-
Write and advocate for a set of requirements to change the K-12 educational standards
-
Implement, design, and compile standardized resources about climate change in line with new curricula requirements that the MCEO is advocating for
Short termgoals
-
Appeal to Educational Boards in Massachusetts (Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents, Massachusetts Teacher Association, Massachusetts Association of School Committees, Massachusetts Association of Science Teachers, etc.)
-
Construct a board of teachers (grades K-12) from Massachusetts who can give insight on how to construct new climate curricula and implement it into schools
-
Organize educational events for students across the state to teach about climate change
